CONCEPT OF BRAND POSITIONING, TYPES OF POSITIONING, HOW TO MANAGE IT AND STRATEGY

Hey guys, You might asking your self what Brand positioning is and what the use of it? 

CONCEPT OF POSITIONING simply mean How Companies wants to position their brand to the top and to be differentiate among other brands that having the same products... 

Think of the Consumer behaviour rather than literally focusing on the product it self...

TWO TYPES OF POSITIONING:

FUNCTIONAL POSITIONING : Refers to the features and Benefits of the products.


EXPRESSIVE POSITIONING: What attitude do you want your customer to feel when using your product? EGO, SATISFACTION. SOCIAL... We want customer to feel and look good when using it.




HOW TO MANAGE AND PLAN FOR POSITIONING OUR BRAND? 

Ok you require a bit information to do this:

1. YOU NEED TO FIGURE OUT WHO ARE YOUR COMPETITORS AND THE SAME PRODUCTS THERE ARE SELLING INCLUDING THE PRICES.... THEN THEIR POSITIONS

2. WHERE IS YOUR CURRENT POSITION?

3.  WHERE DO YOU DESIRE TO POSITION YOUR BRAND

4. PLAN A STRATEGY TO ACHIEVE THAT POSITION.. MEASURE ITS FEASIBILITY

5. THEN IMPLEMENT THAT STRATEGY

6. THEN MONITOR THE PERCEPTION.


Then use PERCEPTUAL MAPPING TO PLOT WHERE YOUR BRAND POSITION IS CORRESPONDS TO THE PRICE AND ITS FEATURES IN THE Y AXIS



STRATEGY TO BECOME THE TOP POSITIONING BRAND, YOU MUST CONSIDER:


1. FEATURE / BENEFIT

2. PRICE

3. USE

4. USER

5. PRODUCT CLASS DISSOCIATION: this is how you combine two brands become one feature e.g Margarine and butter brands...now there is a new product which combine these two: "I cant believe its not butter"....

6. COMPETITORS...

S.M.A.R.T : GUIDE TO BE USED BY MARKETERS TO SET AND ANALYSE THE MARKETING OR PROMOTIONAL OBJECTIVE


Have you guys learn what S.M.A.R.T is? If you are a marketer, you might know what this is...


SMART stands for:

S   pecific
M  easurable
A  chievable
R   ealistic
T   argeted and Timed


For Example: Company X plans to set a new objective... So upon making the objective, analyse each objective by using SMART.... Is that simple? It sounds simple but when you implement it, its not that easy but it gives you a good benchmark for the objectives to be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and better targeted when those objectives can be achieved let say in 5 years time???

Brand Positioning part 2: A.I.D.A MODEL OF MARKETING PLAN STRATEGY FOR SELLING OUR PRODUCTS...

This part is a continuation from part 1...

AIDA model is a marketing tool which has been used for over a century and sets out the four different stages an effective marketing plan should follow when selling a product or service.

Lets take a look what AIDA stands for:

Awareness - concerns about how to introduce our products to consumer...is it either through advertising or personal selling...
  
Look at the diagram below...This diagram is awareness model that shows awareness against High Involvement...

Involvement reflects the consumer attitudes in deciding whether to purchase the product or not depending upon their relevancy.

 High Involvement : Usually High cost products such as Cars, Washing machine, SLR camera, houses and insurance policies.. Other than that suits, dress, perfume and jewellery are consider high involvement because consumers need to ask themselves whether these products are highly important to them and high personal relevance before purchasing the products.. Because they may have high level of risk...Risk here refer to money... So Consumer will seek for more information about the products through Brochure or need support from Saler (personal selling)
Low Involvement: Usually Low cost products such as can food, washing powder, chocolate that consumer doesn't require to seek lots of information about it to decide for purchasing the product because they have low level of risk (money) ...

HIGH INVOLVEMENT RELY ON PERSONAL SELLING OR PROMOTIONAL LEAFLET

LOW INVOLVEMENT RELY ON ADVERTISEMENT ONLY...


Interest - How to create their interest... If it is about a product, people might get interest from the packaging or the feature or their benefits. If it a website, people might be interested through its visual elements and should be readable so that the user would go to the next page.

Desire - After creating their interest, grab their attention by giving some promotion or get a free giveway if they buy that product...Convince audience your brand is better than others competitors... if it is a website, increase the usability of the websites, clear menu, or maybe easy to upload image with faster speed than other website...good example is facebook...many features and benefits...

Action   - Then this stage is where audience decides to buy and purchase the product/website.. Any promise should be taken into action at this stage after users buying the products such as coupon or giveaway...

This is pretty useful for promoting our products (selling products).... :)



Brand Positioning part 1: Methods how to promote a new product and adopt Positioning strategy to become top brand..

I was attending a lecture at Winchester School Of Art, University of Southampton.. The lecture is about brand positioning... Brand Positioning is a guide for marketer to position their brand and differentiate and to take competitive advantage among any other brand out there selling the same product...

For Example:
If a company A planned to sell ENERGY DRINK such as Lucozade. there are many companies are selling energy drink too such as RED BULL, RELENTLESS, V DRINK, MONSTER, MOTHER and etc.. All these energy drinks are now popular... so how this company A would sell and make their brand to be accepted as consumer's daily drinks and to position the brand to the top hierarchy brand among the others? Its quite hard right??
Now Im going to tell you steps and measures which could help you to succeed for promoting new product..
But one thing i want to stress here:


DO NOT RELY ON SALES AS A MEASUREMENT FOR 
PROMOTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS ONLY

You know why???? 

Because Sale is NOT a LONG TERM EFFECT OF PROMOTION AND IT IGNORES CONSUMER BEHAVIOUR because the consumer would buy any other brands if one day the price goes higher... PROMOTION price is cheaper but only during introductory price....NOT ALWAYS CHEAP...hahahaha


BUT I DON'T SAY SALES IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT BUT JUST DONT RELY ON IT....


SO PROMOTIONAL OBJECTIVE MUST HAVE THREE COMPONENTS WHICH ARE CONSIDERED IMPORTANT:

BUYERS
BRAND IMAGE AND REPUTATION
SALES VOLUME

QR CODE : Extend marketing to the mobile web


Hey today i would like to share with you about QRCODE... I bet many of you including myself have not exposed to the latest technology nowadays and did not realise about this feature... QRCODE is a code that can be used to direct user to a specific URL link or website without having to enter the url address manually... To be clear about this, i have made a video below what do i mean about QRCODE...



Some Marketers/ advertisers nowadays utilised this feature by embeddung the QRCODE within their print ad such as poster or ad... The video below demonstrates how restaurant can make used of this code to extend menus over the mobile web.


BAKING APPLE CRUMBLE

Last week i was making apple crumble for my housemates...That was the first baking i did and it was successful!! My housemate love it so much...Thank god they like it!!! Actually I learnt it from Youtube.. Now I believe Youtube has everything we need.. *Youtube is the second largest search engine in the world*... hahaha... Before that i did not have any plan at all to do it but I only have 3 bramley apples i bought from Tesco... I was about to throw it away because I ate it but I dont like it *just to be honest*..


Then my housemate gave me this idea "Why dont you just make a cake with it"... mmmmm...YEAHH APPLE CRUMBLE WOULD BE GOODDD!!!!... BUT I never ever bake a cake before... but these two videos helped me a lot:

From video 1 below, I just get an  idea how she makes the apple to be soft as I used original apples, i did not use apple slice which u can buy from can (ready made for cooking)...


But I literally follow the video below... I reckon it is easy to make...

Hey guys, just wanna share my drawing below which I have drawn from a picture of myself with my 2 lovely housemates (original picture above). The photo was taken a week before christmas last year 2010... In this drawing, i did not literally follow from the original picture.. I tend to ignore the chocolate bit from both of my housemate because i dont want to ruin their real face but i drawn chocolate beard on my face..Lol... Any comments about any tips you want to share about my drawing.. You're welcome to do so... Thank you...

This morning I woke up, i saw this on the sky...I just think it is awesome, i havent seen anything like this before... Well i watched this in some movies where dead people's soul being brought up to the sky by angels... hahaha...Likewise, it looks like it though...Ohhhh i am full of drama and fantasy....Stop it Sam!!! hahaha... But I love this phenomena-ish....

WELCOME TO AD-DESIGN WEB BLOG

Hi im Sam.. Welcome to my ad-designweb blog and thank you for browsing my portfolios. Please click on "about me" to know more about myself. This blog will be divided into two sections i.e. Advertising section and Design section. In the advertising section, it comprises of analysing different types of ads and platforms that are used by many marketers/advertisers nowadays, using specific methods/theories upon extracting the meaning of the ad that convey message to target audiences. In design section, this contains all  mydesign works that could either be in the form of drawing, poster, animation and website. This blog may be useful for any students or anyone in general, who are interested in both advertising and design to get inspired from my design and i will try to do some tutorials of any particular piece of works upon request.


As an introduction and ice breaker, lets take a look at the title of this blog "ad-designweb". The name indicates "advertising and design work" that i will/ or have done for my portfolio...  i have attached my first drawing that shows a portrait of a random guy who did a plastic surgery on his face...This drawing as an opening "so-called" work  and as a metaphor to show how shaping and designing have now become important as well as influencing people's lives.
